AIA Orlando Elects Michael Compton as Director at Large

October 4, 2018

RS&H Healthcare Design Leader Michael Compton, AIA, EDAC, LEED AP, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Orlando Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Compton will serve as Director at Large for the AIA Orlando Board.

“It’s an honor to be elected by my peers to this position,” Compton said. “Orlando has one of the largest, strongest AIA chapters in the state of Florida, and I look forward to helping it continue to grow.”

The AIA Orlando chapter consists of more than 700 members. The chapter is dedicated to serving its membership by creating opportunities for professional development and fellowship, as well as serving the community and heightening the recognition of the architecture profession.

As a healthcare architect, Compton aims to reinvest in the AIA’s Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH), one of AIA’s core knowledge communities entrusted to improve both the quality of healthcare design and the design of healthy communities. The first AAH community in Florida was formed within AIA Orlando, and Compton hopes to reinvigorate the group.

This isn’t Compton’s first AIA Board appointment. Prior to moving to Orlando last year, Compton served on the AIA Jacksonville Board of Directors for a few years, first as secretary and then as treasurer. He also started the AAH committee in Jacksonville.

Compton has professional experience in many aspects of the built environment, including academic exploration and instruction, with the practical application of design and construction process ranging from initial client contact and design development to project management.

An EDAC Accredited Professional, he is a strong proponent of evidence-based design practices, and teachings in the design community. His ultimate goal is to provide successful design solutions benefiting not only his clients’ programmatic needs but the best healthcare spaces for patients and families.
