2020 Annual Award Winners Show Dedication to Clients, Communities

By Eliza Wireback

August 19, 2020

RS&H's annual associate award winners for 2020.

Each year, RS&H honors five associates who embody our core values and elevate the company to our next level. A lot is different in 2020, but the level of excellence RS&H associates deliver each day for our clients remains constant – making selection of the 2020 annual award winners as difficult as ever.

This year’s crop of associates cross markets, geographies and disciplines, but they are united in their dedication to their clients, communities and each other. At a virtual August town hall, company leadership honored the associates for their countless contributions to the company’s continued growth.

Each award winner received a specially designed poster, among other honors. A copy of the poster will also be hung in RS&H’s Jacksonville, Fla., headquarters.

Josh Barrett - Project Manager of the Year

Joshua Barrett is RS&H's Project Manager of the Year.

As the Transportation-Construction Management Colorado State Leader, Josh oversees a team of 30 associates while leading complex projects that exceed client expectations. He excels both in his management position and his continued work as a project engineer, gaining consistent praise from clients, including on the C-470 design-build project. Josh leads by example, approaching each project with his characteristically high level of commitment and diligence. Josh also takes time to mentor up-and-coming project engineers, investing in the future as he delivers on clients’ needs of today and tomorrow.

Rob Grotefend - Professional Practitioner of the Year

Rob Grotefend is RS&H's Professional Practitioner of the Year.

A seasoned airport planner with 15 years of experience, Rob is an expert in not one, not two – but three disciplines: planning, geographic information systems (GIS) and airport pavement management programs (PMPs). Through his PMP expertise, Rob has helped bolster RS&H’s reputation for leadership, innovation and unparalleled accuracy and quality. His talents with GIS allow for greater efficiency and new approaches to common planning challenges, while his overall planning acumen is well-known and sought-after across the company. Rob is passionate about developing new, innovative solutions for airports and frequently speaks at GIS conferences about aviation and airport GIS technologies.

Steve Scheiber - Impact Award

Steve Scheiber is RS&H's Impact Award winner.

Steve founded the RS&H video production group as a one-man band. In just six years, the video team leader has grown it into a five-person team, producing award-winning content along the way that helps tell RS&H’s story – and that of our clients. Steve is known by colleagues and clients alike for his creativity, storytelling skill and ability to translate technical information into understandable, engaging content. Whether he’s directing a company town hall or helping clients connect with their communities, Steve delivers a product that is as high quality as it is high impact.

Tom Slater - Community Volunteer of the Year

Tom Slater is RS&H's Community Volunteer of the Year.

As Tom’s nominator wrote, this was another selfless year of many for the Raleigh office leader. From his personal plane, he distributed supplies to nearby communities affected by Hurricane Dorian and rescued dogs from shelters through the Pilots N Paws program. He also continued to teach the next generation of aviation designers at North Carolina State University and served on the Federal Aviation Administration Safety Team (FAAST). His efforts have not only helped his community, but have also improved the lives of countless people and animals across the country.

Jordan Whitman - Young Professional of the Year

Jordan Whitman is RS&H's Young Professional of the Year.

In her seven years at RS&H, Jordan has grown from a recent college graduate into an enterprise-wide resource for interior design, recognized for her dedication and skill. Jordan oversees Texas Corporate, Health & Science interior design assignments and is one of the most requested design collaborators for strategic cross-firm, cross-region assignments.
